Celebrex. Makes you think of Good Times, of parties. I have images of holding my child over my head, dancing in the living room. “Celebrex. Celebrate the moment!”

The doctor pronounced me “pre-diabetic” and cautiously diagnosed seronegative Rheumatoid Arthritis. (more testing is needed) Or possibly degenerative arthritis, but that’s unlikely because I am so young and not an athlete. The game plan: Lose 20 pounds (because fat steals insulin!) and go on the ADA diabetic diet, 1300 calories a day. Hi, my morning coffee has 300 calories at least, even with Agave instead of sugar. And also? That diet is bullshit. I never had a 2-hour read less than 160 when I ate off their approved food list. It’s simply too much starch. And! How is it that these doctors and nutritionists are so focused on calories and there is NO MENTION of complex vs. simple carbohydrates, fruit sugar vs. white sugar vs. honey vs. agave? No mention of sweet vs. white potatoes, sprouted vs. other grains. The fact is that 300 complex carbs in a day will do different things to the body than 300 simple carbs.

Anyway. This morning I swallowed my second dose of Celebrex. I have mobility, but am not completely free of pain. Whatever, I can pick up my baby and open the front door. That’s progress. Still can’t kneel down and get back up, though. The doctor is unconcerned with the actual cause of the Rheumatoid Arthritis, which is an autoimmune disease (often called Rheumatoid Disease because it can affect the organs of the body as well as the joints) that causes inflammation. But something causes the disease in the first place, and no one seems to care about that. I’ve read that some doctors believe it is caused by an infection. Some believe that celiac disease can cause RA. (Predictably, my poor bread addicted DH is very skeptical to the point of pissing me off about the celiac connection. I can’t blame him; no one wants to entertain the idea that wheat might have to leave the family grocery list forever.)

The allopathic literature contends, “no one knows what causes Rheumatoid Arthritis”.  I don’t accept that. I don’t accept that I am doomed to a daily regimen of pain reliever and a shorter life expectancy just because no one wants to do the legwork to nail down the cause of this disease. I’m just not gonna live like that. I will fight this, and I will win.
