I have long, detailed dreams in color when I’m taking Ambien. This is probably a poisonous side effect and perhaps in a few years I can be part of a class action lawsuit against Big Pharma. In the meantime, I enjoy these dreams, which play more like dvd movies than dreams.
In this one, there was a girl’s night out sleepover and I was trying to make my sister (who I haven’t seen in years and who I miss daily) feel welcome. I was shocked that while the living room at Shana’s house was beautiful, the sleeping rooms were filthy and filled with drunken college kids. There was no place to sleep and not only that, but this house was located in downtown Fernandina and people kept coming up to sit on the patio and expect to be fed! Everyone at the sleepover was pitching in to wait on these customers and I just wanted to leave. My restaurant days were behind me. This was no relaxing girl’s night out!
Then I was in a parking garage watching a woman in labor who should not have been pregnant. (Thanks, Fringe!) Her stomach was growing before my eyes, and whatever was inside her was rolling about under the surface. Her face was glossy with sweat and I went to her and knelt down. It was understood that I should be running from her-that she was not having an ordinary baby and that my life was in danger. Her eyes were not human. I said “I can help you. Do you want me to help you?” and she replied “this is not an ordinary baby. You cannot help me.”
“It’s a birth” I said. “I can help you.”
As the baby emerged, I realized that it was not a child at all but a blue cat, small like mine but not a kitten.
“Kate? Kate McDade?”
And the cat wove around my hand, confirming that I knew this being. Briefly I considered that people were being reborn into animals and that there was no reason to be afraid of this process. Then we went in search of food for the cat.
I am unsure what became of the mother.
As I wrote this out today my daughter insisted on leaving Yo Gabba Gabba on. In the middle of the show there’s a musical performance? Wtf. Anyway, there’s a blue cat floating around the screen with some dogs while they sing about best friends.
