awww. her first fight.

September 7, 2006 by Summer

Milestones, eh?

The inevitable first fight today. Formula:

find someone that looks different

deduce that since they have not been willing to fight some girl in 1st period, they are sufficiently passive.

Harrass her, invade her personal space by pulling at her hair, picking up her dreadlocks.

Make up a bullshit reason to fight (“you don’t talk to my friend like that!”)

Attack her while she is sitting on the bleachers, exploiting your only advantage which is that she is sitting down.

Lay flabby redneck ass on top of her while getting off a few girl-slaps before getting up when teachers tell you to stop.

–We told her to do like Ender when it happens again (and we all know it will) and make sure they know she doesn’t play that bullshit. Does that make us bad parents?

The biggest mistake I ever made as a middle schooler was running away from people who wanted to beat me up. I was not allowed to hit.

Late at night, I fantasize about how those situations, and in fact my entire adolescence, would have been different had I defended myself.

It seems so machavelian now, so incredibly ignorant and redneck to even think like this. But this is where we live, Internet. We live in a place where a person can be hit because of their hairstyle. We live in a place where a 10 year old child can be accused of witchcraft and forced to say grace before meals at a class party.
